sold in support of the communities fighting to keep it public

CONCEPT

The Feld Lamp is the first project in a series that seeks to promote community benefit sharing models, that support local businesses with products that actively bring value back into the communities they aim to serve, rather than extracting.

Tempelhofer Feld is a historic, unique and much beloved urban green space in Berlin. It is a hub for community & ecology that millions benefit from each and every year. It is now under serious threat of development, with the Senate restarting conversations on how to do so in spite of the 2014 referendum to keep in public hands. In support of @Architects4THF & @thf100, who campaign to stop construction on the Feld & support co-operatives who inhabit the space today. So far over 1000 EUR has been donated as a result of this project.

DESIGN

By taking a place based approach to product design the final object is inspired by the industrial past of the airport with the warmth this space creates for millions today:

- A boxy form inspired by the decommissioned runway signage on the Templehofer landing strip, designed to be draw the eye at a glance and hero the lightsource itself.

- A construction of rolled aluminium, exposed rivets and dimming dial that harks back to the planes that took flight from.

- A sunset orange hue shining through a fluted panel that refracts light like the reinforced windows of the terminal at sunset.
